Control FAQs
Why can't I log into my Premium Spam Control
account?
Remember, you must use your full e-mail address
and your e-mail password. If you don't know your
e-mail password, or you think you are using the
correct one and it still fails, please contact
our Help Desk for assistance.
What happens to my old Postini account?
For a short period of time, you can still access
your Postini account. There may be some spam
sent there before the cutover date. You can also
see your blocked and allowed list. This would
allow you to copy any addresses you would want
set up on the new spam account. But remember,
after the cutover date no new e-mail will be
going through the Postini site.
Why do I get a notification of spam almost every
day?
The new filter will only keep spam for seven
days and then discards it. So the system will
notify you daily when you have new spam.
Why do I have to check my spam at all?
Since this will be a new account for everyone,
the allow whitelist will be starting over new.
Your settings can be adjusted as you wish, but
we strongly suggest that for the first few
weeks, you check your spam daily for e-mails
that may have been inadvertently blocked.
When I look at my spam, I see choices of Spam
and Ham. What does this mean?
Spam is e-mail that you don't want sent to your
inbox. Ham is e-mail that you do want sent to
your inbox.
When I look at my quarantine page, the e-mail
defaults to Spam. How do I choose one to be
delivered to my inbox?
Be careful here. Go through all
of the e-mail on one quarantine page making your
choices of Ham or Spam. When you are done,
choose confirm. If you had only looked at
the beginning of your e-mails and found one you
wanted as Ham and then chose confirm, it would
delete all the rest of your e-mails on the
quarantine page because they're defaulted to
Spam.
How does the filter know what to throw in
quarantine?
It is based on a prewritten point system
(systems can clarify more).
What is the
whitelist?
You can set e-mails or domains to always be
allowed into your mailbox by adding them to the
whitelist.
What is a
blacklist?
The blacklist is the opposite of whitelist.
Blacklisted e-mail addresses or domains should
never be allowed into your mailbox.
What should I set the filter level to?
Most may want to experiment with this a bit to
see what filter level works for the amount of
spam they receive.
What is the custom level for on the filter?
If the presets for the spam filter don't fit
your needs, it can be adjusted manually to help
better suit your needs.
How come my friend's e-mail was blocked?
The filter obviously saw it as a threat. To stop
this from happening, you will need to whitelist
your friend's e-mail address.
I blacklisted a spam e-mail account, how come I
keep getting it?
Some spammers can use fake e-mail addresses and
this is probably what you're blacklisting.
