Personal Home
Page Instructions
To place your personal home
page on your computer system, you must first
create your page in an html format. Once you
have created your page, you will need to FTP
(File Transfer Protocol) it to your home
directory on our server. Your home directory is:
export/home/(your user name)/public_html. You
will have to make the directory called
public_html. Once you FTP your home page(s) and
any graphics to our server, you should be able
to see your home page at our address, http://en-tel.net/~(your
user name). If you have named your home page
index.htm your page should come up.
Hints
- Name your main home page
index.html. Our server is a Unix system and
can use longer file names. However, when you
create your page on your system, you will
need to use a file name your system can
handle. Once you FTP your file(s) to our
system to your directory/export/home/(your
user name)/public_html, you may then rename
them as needed. Be careful when you rename a
file, if you reference a page and have a
hyperlink to that page, by renaming the file
the link may be broken.
- File names are case
sensitive so any hypertext link to other
files must be in the same case.
- Your page could be
accessed by anyone in the world who has
Internet access. Important: only put
on your page what you want people to know
about you. You should consider very
seriously what might happen if you put your
phone number, snail mail, or e-mail address
on the Internet. There are people or
organizations who will try to take advantage
of any bit of information they can.
- Please read our
Acceptable Use
Policy. If your page should contain
information we determine to be
inappropriate, your page will be pulled and
you will be notified.
If you have any questions
about how to FTP your file(s), you may e-mail
